EcoHomes & the Code for Sustainable Homes

MacConvilles Surveying can offer a range of services to those requiring compliance with EcoHomes and the Code for Sustainable Homes for their residential developments.

These services are able to be offered to owners/occupiers and single plot owners as well as developers and housing associations.

Our services range from providing a letter of support for a planning application or providing a short form assessment to satisfy a planning condition up to carrying out full Design Stage Assessments and Post Completion Reviews for auditing and certification by the BRE.

In addition, we can assess your scheme at its current design development and advise on both the level or rating it will achieve and give options and advice on how to develop the design to achieve the level or rating required.

MacConvilles are committed to the implementation of the Egan principles. Our involvement in the implementation of the much-needed modernisation of the Construction Industry presently underway includes:-

Innovation Team

Construction Industry Council
This pan Construction Industry body occupies a unique role within the UK Construction Industry. Its members represent over 350,000 professionals including Clients working for and in association with the Construction Industry.

It is the representative Forum for the Industry’s professional institutions, consulting associations, clients’ forums, research organisations and standard setting specialist trade bodies.

The Council’s Programme of Work is extremely diverse, covering a wide spectrum of political, practice, research, education, professional development and environmental issues. Partnering Task Force : One of our Senior Associates has joined the CIC’s Partnering Task Force.

The aim of this Task Force is to produce practical guidance on Partnering for dissemination via the CIC to its Members.

  • MacConvilles have encouraged and assisted their Clients to submit Demonstration Projects for approval to the Housing Forum and M4I.
  • MacConvilles currently have three Demonstration Projects on site.
  • MacConvilles have actively brought forward innovations to be tried and tested on Demonstration Projects.
  • We are fully conversant with the CBPP Benchmark Key Performance Indicators and have all the requisite software. As a member of the Housing Forum, we have signed up to the Benchmarking Charter.
  • We wholeheartedly support the introduction of Housing Quality Indicators (HQI’s) as the first “quality” based Indicators ever to be produced for housing.

Partnering

  • MacConvilles are offering strategic advice on Partnering and have entered into a number of Partnering arrangements with Clients. We run Partnering workshops on specific projects for the supply chain. The number of supply chain participants is widening as opportunities for co-operation increase.

Whole Life Performance

  • MacConvilles are members of a “Whole Life Costing Forum.
Whole Life Costing is central to the issue of Sustainable Development and is gaining in importance.

MacConvilles have been instrumental in bringing the work of the Forum to the attention of the industry bodies.

MacConvilles’ philosophy and approach to Environmental Impact and Sustainable Development is described elsewhere on this web site.

Innovative Construction Systems and Techniques (Lean Construction)

  • MacConvilles are currently working with a number of Developers/Contractors and material suppliers on innovative construction systems and techniques being developed inside the UK and on mainland Europe.

International Alliance of Interoperability

  • Latham, Egan and a number of other progressive thinkers in the Construction Industry have highlighted the separation of the design and construction processes as being nonsensical, wasteful and counter-productive.

The integration of design and construction processes will require high levels of software interoperability between members of the team. Single project databases and partnering arrangements reinforce the importance of interoperability.

MacConvilles have a senior member of their team represented on the IAI.
