The ‘book & bean’ at The University of Brighton

University of Brighton – New Student Cafe

We were the Lead Consultants for the refurbishment of the café on the mezzanine level of the Cockroft Building at the University of Brighton. It involved the entire strip-out and demolition of the existing café and food preparation area, and, as part of a major overhaul of this 1960s building, there were complicating factors: we were working to a tight schedule (everything had to be finished by the start of the new academic year) while managing the effects of asbestos found in the building. Happily, the new ‘book & bean cafe’ was ready and waiting when the students returned from their summer break.

The ‘book & bean’ café  at the University of Brighton is situated on the mezzanine level of the Cockcroft Building on the Moulsecoomb Campus in Lewes Road, Brighton.

The café has been refurbished as part of major works the University are currently undertaking to the 1960s Cockcroft Building.
